How Many Decades Will You Stress?

Oct 08, 2024
stress and overwhelm of adulting

If you think about it, "adulting" is the longest stage of our life. Unlike puberty, we don't pass through it; we pass on after it. Perhaps a little morbid, but true. The right of passage into adulthood grants us opportunity and responsibility, some wonderful and some tough.

We tend to adult in decades, each ushering us into new experiences with the gift of more perspective.

Unfortunately, too many of us carry stress, overwhelm, and feeling stuck with us from decade to decade.

The self-doubt of our teen years follows us into our twenties.

The poor financial decisions of our twenties follow us into our thirties.

The soul-sucking job of our thirties follows us into forties...you get the picture.

That is unless we choose a different path.  An object in motion stays in motion until acted upon by a different force.

Two things thrust me into motion.

First was my decision to have kids. The depression and eating disorder that followed me from my teens into my twenties could no longer rule my life. I pledged that to the best of my ability, I would not make my sh#! their sh#!.

The second was in my forties. I woke up in a panic attack in a Manila hotel room. After the panic subsided, I realized I was disappearing. Somehow, I was losing myself along the way of opportunity and responsibility.

Everything changed that day.

Working with coaches, healers, and trainers, I decided to find a different path.

I do not claim to have all the answers, but I have some good ideas for moving forward through overwhelm, fear, and stuckness. I can honestly say I took on my stuff. I aim to keep taking it on each day so I don't drag it with me.

Simplify Adulting is a movement to stop decade after decade of adulting stress and overwhelm.

I want Simplify Adulting to be the force that helps people gain confidence and clarity so they can live lives that light them up.

It's never too early to Simplify Adulting.  The sooner, the better.
